Papaitonga Scenic Reserve walks, Ohau, Horowhenua
Centred on the Papaitonga dune lake, this 135ha reserve is an important refuge for birds that depend on wetlands or lowland forests for their survival. The location has historic significance for Muaupoko and was once owned by controversial ornitholigist Sir Walter Buller who in 1897, purchased Papaitongawith the intention of protecting the land around the lake for future generations.
There is just a short walk here, no dogs or mountainbiking.
