Bethells Beach

Bethells Beach is another beach in the Waitakere Ranges well worth a visit. Here you will also find, behind the sand dunes, Lake Wainamu - a popular swimming alternative to the rough west coast beaches.  It is a geographically contained area with constrained vehicle access and limited parking capacity.

Dog walking with restrictions.
Waitakere Bay (across the river): off-lead area, all year round Bethells main beach: dogs on-lead all summer long (dotterels breed there). In winter you can walk your dog off-lead as far as the green post about a third of the way along the beach, then dogs must be on-lead. O’Neill Bay: no dogs (penguins breed there).
