Ligar Bay Esplanade Reserve covers a narrow strip of land between Abel Tasman Drive and Ligar Bay estuary and includes the narrow peninsula that separates the estuary from the bay. It is undeveloped, except for the presence of a house on the peninsula.
The estuary margin part of Ligar Bay Esplanade Reserve supports low vegetation dominated by gorse, flax, mahoe, bracken and marsh ribbonwood. Several macrocarpa and pine trees are present on the peninsula. The reserve is clearly visible from the main road through the area (Abel Tasman Drive) and has some ecological and scenic value.
Dogs are prohibited on this reserve in the summer months (1 December to 1 March) except between the hours of 5.00 am and 9.00 am.There are many places within Tasman District to exercise your dog, both on and off the leash. Dogs are prohibited in several beach and reserve areas, and other areas require leash control.Read more about dog exercise areas
