About Waikanae Beach Waikanae Beach is a safe and popular swimming beach. It has a playground, tennis courts, cycle and walkway that connects with the harbour and the Captain James Cook statue. A very popular for fishing and picnicking under the trees. The reserve includes the foreshore from Grey Street to 'The Cut' including Waikanae Beach Holiday Park. History Waikanae Beach reserve is historically significant, the site represents the first ?meeting place? of the founding cultures Maori and European in 1769.
