The newly opened Western Springs Lakeside Playground is pretty fab, it’s got shiny new equipment and some fairly impressive play structures with the crowd to boot.
Fancy a look? Go early, or go late, otherwise you might lose a child (esp on weekends)
HIGHLIGHT
- Couple for me, the percussion toys are pretty awesome, and the use of the natural logs found from the nearby trees at the back of the playground prove to be very effective balancing courses.
WHAT WE LIKED
- There is a LOT of variety of play structures here, for both big and small kids.
- Built mostly on soft mats, which i love! So easy to walk on.
- Man made shading on top of most of the structures where it’s not covered by tree shade - this is the most underrated addition ever.
- Grass all around the outside of the playground, no roads, no cars, just walkways and lots of ducks, pretty darn safe and great place for picnics.
- Bike racks, to lock your ride.
- Next to the zoo! Which also holds a pretty sweet playground itself!
- Next to the big walking track built around the Western Springs, can go for a walk or a bike ride if you get bored.
- Parking will be free, but just a bit of a walk away.
- Heaps of room for kids to run around.
WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE?
- This place is popular, which means HEAPS of people! **
- I can see there is a small pump track built into the playground, but it weaves in and out of play areas where children are running around all the time, not sure if that’s a great idea?
- You have to walk a bit from wherever your car is to the playground, there isn’t parking right next to it.
- Nitpicking, but the soft mats are only on the small kids areas, the big slides are still covered in bark.
- There is nothing around here to buy food / drinks from, so bring your own.**
