Paekakariki Escarpment Walkway

A popular walkway offering great views of Kapiti Island best suited for a fine day as it is exposed. Reasonable fitness is required as it is classified as a tramping track and involves a steep sided track and lots of steps. It s part of Te Araroa and more advice is available on its site. For people of average fitness the 9km walk will take about 4 hours.

The track is easily accessed at either end from the railway stations at Pukerua Bay or Paekaekariki and since the trains run every half an hour from Wellington station there is no need for a car.
