Wairau Lagoons

Hardings Road is off State Highway One. From the end of the road a walkway leads to the lagoons; follow the edge south to reach the wreck of the goldfields schooner "Waverley". Return across the salt marsh flats. Allow three hours walking time. The Department of Conservation warn that 'the track crosses salt-marches which may be wet underfoot.' Take your binoculars to view the extensive bird life which includes royal spoonbills.
