Kiwi Esplanade, Mangere Bridge, Auckland
Aucklanders are fortunate to have this coastal Auckland Council managed Farm Park which is easy to access and provides an opportunity for city children to experience a working farm.
Their spring farm day is a city alternative to the annual A and P shows in rural centres. Ambury Farm also has a centre for riding for the disabled.
Underneath this healthy farmland, are the remains of the ancient volcanoes that formed Auckland, and here is where you can see some of the formations associated with those. The ends of Lava Tubes are dotted around the paddocks (especially the Bull Paddock, look out for those guys) and along the shoreline on surrounding beaches. One big one has a door with a lock on it.
It is not smart to try to crawl into the Lava tubes as they are muddy and the odd explorer has become stuck.
