Rauora Park

Overlaying modern ideas upon the rigid block system imposed upon the Garden City by it's 'Wakefield Settlement' plan, Otakaro Ltd has blessed the regenerating centre with 'horizontal infrastructure' and 'greenways'

Rauora Park is one of the larger and more central of these, opening at the beginning of 2018 to everything but traffic, it spans five city blocks (660m) from Manchester to Madras Streets. The greenway connects Margaret Mahy Playground and the Justice Precinct as well as providing pedestrian access to everything in between, and will serve as recreation area for the East Frame housing development.

So far, mostly grass, some plantings and walkways and cycleways, but a half-basketball court and table tennis tables hav been added at the north end and future projects include a mini-golf course and other youth-friendly attractions. Opening events included a dog-friendly open-air cinema experience and other events are planned here.
