Cathedral Cove - Te Whanganui A Hei Marine Reserve

Thames-Coromandel Walks

Cathedral Cove, or Te Whanganui-a-Hei is an iconic Coromandel destination, near Hahei. The cove was made a marine reserve in 1992 and is a great place for swimming, snorkelling, diving and kayaking. The bay is accessible by water or a 40-minute walk from the carpark. Cathedral cove is most well known for its huge natural rock archway, which joins one bay to the next.

Cathedral Cove stars in the 2008 fantasy blockbuster ‘The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian’. The archway marks the transition space between our world and Narnia. The Pensive children are transported from a grimy London tube station to the tropical wonders of Cathedral cove where they discover the ruins of the Cair Paravel Castle.
