13 Waipiata Domain Road, Patearoa-Waipiata, Central Otago
Waipiata is on the Otago Central Rail Trail walking or cycling track. NZPlaces would love to see your pictures of this speck of a town, there should be a couple of churches and an 1899 hotel, along with the Waipiata-Hamiltons Public Library. The name 'Hamiltons' refers to the nearby mine, and town which used to have a population of 5000. There also used to be a large TB Sanatorium, then corrections facility at Hamiltons, but now it is a Christian retreat centre called En Hakkore, with some permanent residents.
The Taieri rather meanders through this area, making for several nice swimming holes and spots for fishing and kayaking.
