5 Rua Avenue, Waitarere Beach-Poroutawhao, Horowhenua
The small settlement of Waitarere fronts on to a 10km stretch of beach. There is a surf life saving club and a motor camp. Partly exposed on the beach, a 2km walk south of the town, is the wreck of the Hydrabad an iron cotton-trading ship wrecked in June 1878. All 35 people aboard the ship survived. To cut the walking time to the wreck it is possible to access the beach from Hydrabad Drive which borders the southern edge of the town.
