1 Strode Avenue, Naseby-Gimmerburn, Central Otago
A pleasant holiday township which owes its existence to the discovery of gold. It’s a popular centre for mountain biking, and ice skating and curling attract visitors in winter. The temperature range is high. While the town can be very hot during summer, and a dam above the town turns into a swimming hole, in winter it’s the ice skating and curling capital of New Zealand. For several winter months there is an outdoor commercial skating rink.
An historic area is registered by Heritage NZ. Among other buildings look for Strong's Watchmaker shop on Leven street. It was built about 1868 and occupied by the Strong family for ninety one years. Naseby is about 10km off the route of the Otago Rail Trail.
Naseby has a Tiny Library, Golf Course, and historic hotel called the Ancient Briton, which was being demolished in 2020 after a fire.
Rita Angus liked to paint in Naseby.
