Croesus Track - north-western end

Crossing the Paparoa Ranges to join Blackball and Barrytown, the Croesus Track is an easy two day walk though historic gold country. (18 km) In 2015 the Conservation Department announced their intention to link the two halves of the Croesus Track and combine with the Porari River Track to add to the stable of 'great walks.' A planned side trip to the Pike River area, where 29 miners have lain underground since a 2011 fatal blast, is not viewed favourably by the miners families. The tracks are to be graded to easy walking and cycling standard, with the project planned for completion and 'great walk' status in 2018.
