This lookout with great views over the city and sea to the south and east has been built at the southern end of the renamed Tinakori hill. It can be reached by car and is wheel-chair friendly. There are picnic tables. Information panels explain how the original Rata vegetation is being encouraged with the restoration of this section of the town belt to its original role as reserve. They also explain the origin of the name Tinakori and why it has been changed. The lookout is on the route of the Northern Walkway. To reach it from the City by walking on a steepish track, join the Northern Walkway at the end of St Mary Street and follow the signs for Te Ahumairangi /Ridge Walkway.
