1165 Glenvar Ridge Road, Long Bay, Auckland
A very popular beach in a regional park. It has safe swimming, toilets, restaurant, a picnic and barbeque area and children's playground. The park is adjacent to the Long Bay-Okura Marine Reserve. There are walking tracks, the longest of which is a three house coastline walk. This is not the largest of Auckland's Regional Parks, but serves a huge and expanding North Shore residential population.
Vaughan Homestead is the centrepiece of the park, the Vaughans having been involved with the Kauri Gum industry in the area since the 1860s. Though the homestead also dates back that far, it also sports later additions. Planting for revegetation is a continual process, undertaken by Park Rangers and Volunteers.
Council have made an effort with landscaping this beloved beach-scape, adding sand dune erosion protection measures, seating, tracks and play equipment. Planting for revegetation is a continual process, undertaken by Park Rangers and Volunteers. Further work is planned toward wetland development.
The Sir Peter Blake Marine Education and Recreation Centre is another anchor in the bay, providing maritime education for sailors since 1990 and is available for overnight stays.
A leg of Te Araroa Walkway, from Stillwater, concludes here at the park.
