Kuirau Street, Hiapo Summit-Rotorua, Rotorua
Kuirau Park is the free place to go to get a taster of thermal activity.
Surprisingly accessible for a natural phenomena which is also dangerous. Visitors have only to enter the park via one of the several entrances off Ranolf, Pukuatua, Tarewa or Lake Roads, and they will be amidst a microcosm of New Zealand bush, and thermal mudpools all in attractive park-like surroundings. A short walkway including some surprising sculptures, is maintained by Council, along with a children's playground, bbq areas, an historic footbath (still operational) and Rotorua's aquatic centre is on the western side.
Plenty of parking and accessible by bus too.
