Gibbston River Trail

Queenstown-Lakes Walks

An 8km public walking and mountain biking trail along the true right bank of the Kawarau River. Follow the trail along the rocky gorge from the Kawarau Bungy Bridge to Waitiri Creek Wines. Along the way encounter vineyards uncertainly perched on the hillsides mostly growing the regions prize grape, pinot noir. The finished trail links to 3 cafes and 4 wine tasting rooms and tells the story of 19th century gold mining on the Gibbston flats where archaeological evidence from the earliest days of Otago’s mining heritage still remains.
