1001 Whangaruru North Road, Whangaruru, Other
Traditionally the sheltered Whangaruru Harbour is a stopping place for sea travelers between the Bay of Islands and Whangarei. It provides a good anchorage from nearly every wind direction. This area is of particular significance to Ngatiwai, who are the tangata whenua. From the DOC campsite at Puriri Bay (on the North Head) there is a series of interlinked walks. Secluded bays provide opportunities for swimming and snorkelling.
