Lake Rotokura Ecological Reserve

This beautiful walk, first to Dry Lake and then to Lake Rotokura, is in ancient beech forest with plentiful bird life. In the right weather get impressive views of Mount Ruapehu, and sometimes, a reflected view in the lake. DOC says the Dry Lake area is best for picnicing, especially given that Rotokura is tapu, so no eating or fishing should take place there.

An easy walk - the return journey takes under an hour. Getting there in the car is via Karioi Station Road, 12 km from Ohakune.
