Plimmerton is a seaside suburb on Karehana Bay with a view of Mana Island. It has sandy swimming beaches.
Plimmerton is served by the Wellington suburban rail network making it a good place for a DayOut from Wellington. Visit a café, walk along the shore or go swimming. There are several Café/Restaurants in the village, including Cafe Vella and Polish Restaurant Topor Bistro.
On the shore of Karehana Bay is a Sailing and Fishing club, the Plimmerton Boating Club

The existence of the cave is doubted. Possibly it was a figment of Glover's imagination.
Poet Sam Hunt once lived in a boatshed here.
Along the coast to the north is Hongoeka an active Ngati Toa marae, with a wharenui (meeting house) named Te Heke-mai-raro (opened 1997). Ngati Toa were once led by the famous fighting chief Te Rauparaha.
