Moke Lake

Moke Lake is beautiful Central Otago lake, just 13km from Queenstown. Shaped like a lucky horseshoe, Moke Lake is a perfect half day (2.5 hour) loop walk. There are also camping (DoC) swimming and fishing opportunities.

Moke Lake was a key location in the first season of Jane Campion’s 2013 mini-series 'Top of the Lake'. Moke Lake became Lake Top and a lakeside field transformed into Paradise. Not to be mistaken with the real nearby Paradise, 'Top of the Lake's Paradise is a shipping container women's commune, lead by spiritual guru GJ (played by Holly Hunter). Reviews of the show particularly praised the powerful mood and mystery created by Moke's awe-striking scenery.
