Riwaka Resurgence

A side trip from the beginning of the Takaka hill road, seven kilometres up the Riwaka Valley Road leads to the "Riwaka Resurgence".

From the end of the Valley Road a short (20 minutes return) bush track leads to where an underground water-way emerging from the Takaka hill becomes the north branch of the Riwaka river. The underground sumps in the river are are an exciting challenge for divers equipped with ropes and torches. The bush walk is a pleasant experience for those less inclined to adventure. There is a pleasant picnic ground at the road end.
