Carterton Walks

Three 'taipo' (conical pinnacles of sandstone) are prominent sights on the walking track into this 1000 acre, indigenous forest sanctuary which was gazetted in 1901. Turn off on to Rocky Hill road to follow its windy route for several kilometres. There is a DOC noticeboard by a woolshed where the track starts along the farm road. Allow 3 hours for the return trip. No access in lambing season - August to November.
