Tapu Coroglen Road, Tapu-Coroglen, Thames-Coromandel
The 15th largest kauri on the Peninsula is estimated to be 1200 years old. It has an unusual square-looking shape.
There is a short but steep walk from the road to the viewing area where you can get good views across to Maumaupaki (Camels Back) on the main Coromandel Range. (20 minutes return).
The tree remains because it was spared by workers constructing the road in the 1890s.
