1996 Akatarawa Road, Akatarawa Valley, Akatarawa, Upper Hutt City
In an idyllic setting on the winding Akatarawa Road Efil Doog is a sculpture park and plantings of azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons. "Efil Doog" was the life's work of Shirley and Ernest Cosgrove and included a gallery.
A principal focus their gallery collection was the work of what has been called the "Nairn School" an initiative of pioneer impressionist artist and teacher James Nairn centred on Pumpkin Cottage at Silverstream in the Hutt Valley. These works have now been donated to Expressions Gallery in Upper Hutt by the Cosgroves. They form the basis of a permanent collection for the gallery.
Efil Doog having been closed to visitors has now reopened. It is listed as a "Garden of Regional Significance" by the New Zealand Garden Trust and is an event centre.
