10 Tilley Road, Paekakariki-Porirua, Other
Paekakariki has been a important railway town. Regular commuter trains still stop here.
The Station Museum is administered by a trust established to preserve the railway heritage.
It is housed in the Paekakariki Railway Station, built in 1909 following the Government acquisition of the Railway in 1908. George Alexander Troup (1863-1941), was chief architect of New Zealand Railways at the time. A number of other items in the Rail Precinct including the South End Signal Box are heritage listed.
Steam Incorporated which restores ex NZR locomotives to meet the standards of main line operation and runs excursions is part of the complex.
