49 Main Street, Otaki, Kapiti Coast
Otaki Museum tells Otaki's stories through a changing exhibition programme.
Once the Bank of New Zealand, the building was designed by Haughton and Mair and dates from 1918. The bank manager lived at the back.
The Otaki Borough Council bought the building in 1965 and subsequently removed the facade to allow for street widening, cutting it back by about a metre.
After use as a Council Chamber and then as a district service centre the lease was acquired by a local trust in 2003 to establish the museum.
