53 Stuart Street, Dunedin Central, Dunedin Central, Dunedin City
So impressive are the 1902 Law Courts in Dunedin that the hotel built nearby was given the name Law Courts Hotel, and itself has attracted Heritage status.
A stark deposit of Deco in the midst of Dunedin's Victorian downtown, the Law Courts Hotel is presently covered in a coat of dark paint, enhancing the impression that the building is something a bit different.
Built on the site of the Auld Scotland Hotel (1863) the Law Courts Hotel has changed frontages and changed hands a few times in the last century but right now it is trading healthily and you may stay there, eat there or drink there, or all three. The eatery is named The Wig'n' Pen and the drinkery The Jury Room Bar.
