78 Willis Street, Te Aro-Wellington Central, Wellington City
Unknown to most Wellingtonians for decades, a central city courtyard hidden by earthquake-prone buildings has been transformed into a light and airy hub for food-lovers.
Press Hall, at 78 Willis Street, opened to the public in March 2018. It's not your typical food court, it's home to a unique set of eateries, catering to a diverse range of tastes. Italian-style pastas, spicy Mexican dishes, Vietnamese specialities, Japanese favourites, plant-based cuisine and more can be found here. A wide, welcoming laneway from the Willis Street footpath provides easy access to the courtyard and adjacent cafés and, for eaters in a hurry, the laneway itself accommodates four different takeaway establishments.
Press Hall also provides access to a multi-storey office building that occupies space between Willis and Boulcott Streets. The new development gets its name from the initial building occupants; the building housed the press hall of Wellington's former, long-time daily newspaper, The Evening Post.
